Reader(s) is the name used by those of fairy tale descent to refer to those who have no fairy tale family connections, usually from the Woods Beyond.
Origin
The origin of the word 'Reader' has been around in the fairy-tale world for 200 years. After the Good-Evil war, August Sader, a seer, told Rafal that a student that was not from this world would match his Evil soul. In return for this information, Sader was given at spot at the school, and Rafal began taking children from the one village that wasn't magical- Gavaldon, from beyond the woods.

There are a few notable students from Gavaldon that became very famous for their stories:

- Angus of Woods Beyond (Deceased, taken 100 years ago): Became the giant in Jack and the Beanstalk.
- Anya of Woods Beyond (Deceased, taken 50 years ago): Became The Little Mermaid.
- Estra of Woods Beyond (Deceased, taken 50 years ago): Became the Sea Witch in The Little Mermaid.
- Philip of Woods Beyond (Unknown, taken ?? years ago): Became The Cunning Little Tailor.
- Gula of Woods Beyond (Unknown, taken ?? years ago): Became The Witch of the Wood.

Trivia
- The name Reader means that the person only knows the fairy tale world by storybooks, and not actually seeing it.
- In book one, the name was often used as an insult, such when Castor snorted that no Reader had become the top student in "200 years", and becomes upset when Sophie is put into his group.
- Ironically, some of the most famous fairy tale characters were Readers.
