‘‘ Would you like to be a slave to villains? Made to cook children and eat princess' hearts and drink horse-blood...Then learn quickly ’’
—Beatrix

Beatrix of Jaunt Jolie is a supporting character in The School for Good and Evil series, and a student at The School for Good.

Early Life[]

Sometime before the series, Beatrix was born to the child of the maiden who outwitted Rumpelstiltskin. It is mentioned that her mother runs the Everwood Architecture Sociey. Shortly before the series, she received a Flowerground ticket, earning her a place in the School for Good.

Appearance[]

In the first book, she is described as the fairest of all the Evergirls, with waist-long blonde hair, succulent lips, and beautiful topaz eyes. She is also described as being tall and ravishing.

Because of Sophie's spell at the No Ball, Beatrix temporarily became 'ugly': her back hunched, her hair went white, her face pockmarked to an old crone's, her pink dress became black and her body shrivelled.

As a part of Debeautification at the School for Girl, Beatrix gives up on caring for her appearance, choosing to shave off all of her hair. She later admits that she misses her hair, and keeps her hair extentions and other Beautification supplies in a trunk under her bed. Her hair seems to grow back by the end of the series however.

Outfits[]

Beatrix wears quite a few outfits in the series:

  • Her school uniform in Book 1 is an appallingly short pink pinafore, tall pink heels and a white lace blouse.
    • Her portrait in the Ever Never Handbook shows that she most likely wore a flower in her hair.
  • At the Circus of Talents, she wore a peach prairie dress.
  • Her school uniform in book 2 is a blue bodice with a butterfly crest stitched across the heart, royal blue harem pants and a white veil.
  • Her school uniform in book 3 is a tight black pinafore, a green blouse, knee-high socks, flat black slippers and a black beret. She gains a green beret when she is tracked as a Leader.
  • In book 4, she wears a buckskin tunic as she saves her classmates from the Snake and one of Guinevere's old gowns at the post-battle address.

Personality[]

Beatrix was shown to be completely ignorant towards the values that made a true princess. Instead of striving to be good and true, she was completely fixated on her own looks and social standing. This led to her shallow personality, and her obsession of winning the hand of prince Tedros. On multiple occasions, Beatrix was seen to act out in a mean-spirited manner. She unfairly judged individuals such as Agatha.

However, Beatrix changed by the time of book two. Haggling over her appearance lost most of its importance to her. Beatrix began to engage in productive work, such as studying and reading. She started losing respect for men, realizing that she would've done much more if it weren't for Tedros. Beatrix became fairly nicer to Sophie and Agatha, and seemed much more appreciative towards the people around her.

Beatrix continued to grow and mature throughout book three. She proved her bravery in the fight against the School Master.

History[]

The School for Good and Evil[]

Beatrix was one of the girls who welcomed Agatha to their school. She introduced herself and asked for a Flowerground Pass. However, Agatha scared them off with a fart. Beatrix quickly ran off, disgusted.

Later on, Beatrix greatly opposes Agatha and singles her out. Her vain nature becomes apparent after she is seen fussing about her appearance. Agatha regards her as one of the stuffy Evergirls of the school. It is noted that she was one of the smartest students (second place to Tedros) and the most admired Evergirl. She was granted access to the Groom Room. As the story progressed, Sophie learned to despise her, as Beatrix had tried to pursue Tedros.

In the Circus of Talents, Beatrix was completely assured of her chances of being asked out by Tedros for the ball. When her turn came, Beatrix easily beat Hort. Right after Tedros asked for Agatha's hand in the ball, Chaddick quickly drops in his knees and asks for Beatrix's. Beatrix was shown to be mildly disappointed in this, but she accepts.

Later, as Sophie ravaged parts of the Good school, Beatrix was among those who hid, too scared to fight. Later, she tended the wounds of every student that was injured. Beatrix still seemingly had feelings for Tedros, as she pushed him to kill Sophie. When Agatha interfered, Beatrix quickly knocked her out. Beatrix pushed Tedros to vanquish Sophie even more, but was shortly transformed into a witch. By the end of the book, she was back to her normal self.

A World Without Princes[]

Beatrix is one of the girls who participated in Agatha and Sophie's welcoming ceremony. She has shaved her hair and this surprises the two girls.

The Last Ever After[]

Beatrix was tracked as a Leader in the School for New Evil. During Evil Army Training, she supervises the infirmary and dispenses healing elixirs and spells. Later, she learns how to summon crows and beats Cinderella's stepsisters. It is later revealed by Merlin that she learned this from her library books. She fights on the side of Good in the war against the School Master, taking down Snow White's witch and helping to take down Jack's giant. After the battle, she helps Lancelot bind his shoulder and sings an aria at Cinderella and Lady Lesso's funeral.

The Ever Never Handbook[]

It is revealed she was tracked as a Leader, with her Quest being to defend Jaunt Jolie from rogue pirate fleets. She was also voted the Fairest of Them All by her graduating class. She was selected by Dean Dovey for the Ever Never Roundtable.

Quests for Glory[]

At the beginning of the book, Beatrix is badly failing in her Quest.

Later on, she, Reena and Millicent ride into the Four Point to rescue their friends, with Beatrix shooting arrows.

After the battle, Beatrix and Reena write letters of condolence to Millicent's relatives.

In Nottingham, she, Reena and Kiko search the area bordering Sherwood Forest for the Snake.

Beatrix later helps Rhian interview Evers in Camelot Park. For the battle against the Snake, she, Hort, Reena, and Kiko are put on guard in front of the drawbridge. Following the battle, she appears on the balcony beside her teammates and tells the group that she and Reena have been assigned a new quest to rebuild Jaunt Jolie.

A Crystal of Time[]

Following the events of Quests for Glory, Beatrix is trapped in the castle jail. She is later rescued by the team of first years Agatha sent and makes it back to the school. Beatrix, Reena and Kiko are assigned to guard duty at the entrance to Gnomeland. While there, she is gashed in the leg by a scim.

One True King[]

Beatrix spends a lot of time with Reena and Kiko. The three of them become Knights of the Eleven, at Jacinda's invitation.

In the aftermath of the series, Beatrix plans to join Kiko and Reena on their mission to map out the uncharted territory of their world.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Poetry: Beatrix is very good at poetry
  • Singing: Beatrix is a pretty good singer
  • Magic: Beatrix, like all the Evers, has access to magical powers through the glow of her finger pink.
    • Hidrokinesis: Beatrix has demonstrated the ability to use magic to create and control water since with a single gesture of her hand she invoked a magical rain that destabilized Anadil's army of rats.

Relationships[]

Tedros[]

Originally, Tedros was Beatrix's crush, and she would have done anything to have him. she consistently flirted with him throughout book 1, believing that he was the perfect match for her because he was the most sought-after Everboy and she was the most sought-after Evergirl. However, Tedros didn't care much for her, because he knew that she doesn't know the real him. Despite this, he humored her on multiple occasions, as he initially believed that both Sophie and Agatha were witches. After Tedros breaks up with Sophie, Beatrix assumed he would automatically date her, but became irritated when Tedros ignored her and sulked over Sophie's betrayal. Beatrix did not stop persisting however- she named her pet bunny after him and even made a song to sing at the Circus of Talents about him, which even he began to sing along to.

Their relationship is unclear from then on, though it can be assumed that they are at least on neutral terms.

Agatha[]

Originally, Agatha did not like Beatrix that much. Agatha disliked her rotten personality in book 1 and Beatrix often called Agatha names and believed that she was a witch. She even went as far as to 'accidentally' knocking out Agatha during the second Good-Evil war.

However, during book 2, Beatrix praised both Sophie and Agatha for freeing girls from princes, and openly admired them.

In Book 3, The Last Ever After, Beatrix helps Agatha and Tedros in the war against the School Master.

In Book 4, Quests for Glory, Beatrix once again helps the main characters.

Sophie []

Beatrix and Sophie shared a similar negative relationship to Agatha and Beatrix. Sophie did not like Beatrix since she believed that Beatrix would steal Tedros away from her, and Beatrix often humiliated Sophie in front of others, especially Tedros. Likewise, she admires Agatha and Sophie in book 2.

She goes back to disliking Sophie in book 3.

Chaddick[]

Beatrix originally did not think much of Chaddick, until he asked her to the Snow Ball, which she accepted. She quickly develops feelings for him, and he is her phantom in book 2, which she defeats easily, turning it into dust.

It is unknown if they ever became an official couple or not, though she is devastated when she hears of his death.

Reena[]

Reena is considered to be Beatrix's best and closest friend out of the seven Evergirls that Beatrix is surrounded by. The two helped prepare for the second Good-Evil war in book 1, and Beatrix let Reena move into her room when she got scared by Agatha. She eventually becomes Reena's leader during their fourth year.

Millicent[]

Beatrix was also close to Millicent during the series. She tried to help Millicent reach to the sidekick track and was upset when Millicent did not make it. She fell apart when Millicent died.

Quotes[]

"You two are very codependent."
